Advent, which begins this Sunday, is a time of waiting.
Advent is a time of waiting for Christmas, the feast of Christ’s birth. For Christians, Advent looks forward both to the coming of God’s Son into the world as a child (the one anticipated in the Old Testament) and we look forward to the coming of Christ at the end of time (anticipated by us because Jesus told us he would come again).
So, Advent is a time of preparation to welcome Christ. This season of the Church reminds us to look at our lives once again and look at how we might be “more ready” for Jesus’ Second Coming and our judgement day.
This can be a time for confidence in, and gratitude for God’s love for us and his desire for us to be with him in happiness, joy, and peace. It is also a time to remember how God reaches out to us through his Son, and how we might imitate this by reaching out to those less fortunate than ourselves.
